Jess Bennet Pic Jess Bennet

Jess Bennett grew up singing with her mother at the piano – she also was subjected to a fair amount of Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell, who became huge favorites with her as well. In high school she switched from piano playing and taught herself a few chords on her mother’s guitar. From there she started writing songs, even recording several in a Slovakian concert hall (much dilapidated, but also a site where Mozart had performed).

While home with a case of mono during her senior year of high school, Jess did vocals for Team SR’s “Leaving London,” (produced by Signalrunners) which received critical acclaim in the UK with more than 15 plays on BBC’s Radio 1 and was dubbed “Tried and Tested Record of the Week” on Judge Jules’ radio show on Radio 1. Jess met Kevin Benz in her senior year at Georgetown University and began singing and recording with the singer songwriter, Luke Brindley. These days her biggest musical influences are Gemma Hayes, Bon Iver, Damien Rice and Laura Palmaro.

Kevin Benz Pic Kevin Benz

Kevin Benz was born and raised in London. Kevin’s interest in music began at the age of 10 when he got his first Cat Stevens cassette and began playing the violin. After 5 years of violin lessons, Kevin changed his focus to the guitar. Foregoing lessons, he trained by ear by playing along to the likes of The Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, and many more classic rock staples. Kevin played in groups ranging from cover bands to funk/soul groups, performing in local venues and at school.

It wasn’t until his time at Georgetown University that Kevin turned his focus to song-writing. Taking inspiration from older acts like Neil Young, Jackson Browne, and Cat Stevens and newer acts such as Turin Brakes and David Gray, Kevin began to write his own songs. It was around this time when Kevin first met Jessica Bennett.
